Facebook Layout Changes

Morning compers (not to sound too hi-de-hi!).  Have you all had a good, productive and/or relaxing weekend?  Not too bad here on the Island – after the mad rush of trying to get the End of Month comps done on Thursday night, I thought I had earned myself a bit of a rest this weekend.  Cowes week started here this weekend, so have been having fun with the family listening to live music, admiring all the amazing boats and generally being out and about in the sunshine (what we have had, anyway!)

I have been trying to catch up on my Facebook notifications since yesterday pm – all the tags etc that came in from all my lovely fellow Facebook compers.  I thought it would be a good time to let you all know about some layout changes Facebook have made, that came into force from July 2014.  Have you noticed the difference?

Well, to be honest, apart from a more streamlined look toy our newsfeed, the main change that compers will find is where to access the competitions that promoters run.  Previously, when you were on a business timeline, you would see all-manner of tabs listed under their name – some of which included “blog”, “contest”, “win” and “promo”.  This meant you could easily access the correct tab, to see what current promotions and comps were running.  However, with the new Facebook changes, businesses will only be allowed to have 4 or 5 standard tabs under their name – generally these will be “Timeline”, “About”, “Photos” and “likes” as a default.

However, if a company wants to have any more pages, such as a link to their blog, a competition app page or anything out of the ordinary, they will have to sacrifice a tab and change this to “More”, under which all their other pages will be stored.

So now to access businesses’ competitions, you may not initially see the, and may need to hunt around inside the “more” tab, unless you have a direct link to their competition page on Facebook.

This will just take a little getting used to, and in a month or so we will have forgotten what the format used to look like before!

So hopefully that hasn’t totally confused you – do leave me a comment below if you need any clarification, I am always happy to try and help!

Happy comping, and lots of Lucky Dust to you all!
