The French region of Brittany is well-known for its stunning coastline. From sandy beaches to dramatic cliffs and charming seaside towns, there is a strong maritime culture here that weaves through the entire area. The sea provides a wide range of great activities such as SUP, kayaking, wild swimming, sailing and more, as well as breath-taking views and, of course, delicious seafood.

One of the best ways to appreciate this wild coast is by bike, and, in particular, following part of the Vélomaritime Cycle Route. The entire route is 1,500km long, running all the way from the English Channel to the North Sea and crossing three regions of France. And that’s just the French section of an even bigger, multi-country route, the EuroVelo 4, which spans an enormous 5,100km from Western France to Ukraine.

The Vélomaritime Cycle Route hugs the north coast of France and is broken up into small stages, making it the perfect choice to dip into for a cycle mini-break. Cycling the stages around Saint-Malo and Cancale gives you a taste of quintessential Brittany, passing by the beautiful beach at Saint-Malo, stunning rock formations and sculptures, historic settlements and the pretty port town of Cancale, where you can sample their famous oysters.
