Entering Competitions

Entering Competitions

Are the competitions free to enter?

ThePrizeFinder.com is a free service and all the competitions we list on the site are free to enter unless stated otherwise in the listings.

So what's the catch?

No catch. Some of the advertised competitions may ask to send you emails advertising their products, but you can unsubscribe from their emails at any time.

Why do I have to give my home address when they can contact the winner by email?

Competition organisers may need your household address to make sure that one person isn't entering under multiple email addresses.

Is it safe to give out my name and address on the web?

Many websites operate strict privacy policies and will not disclose your details to other companies or individuals without your permission. However, you may receive mail or email from a website as a result of entering their online competitions. If you are worried about how your your data will be used, look at the terms and conditions and privacy policy pages on the website running the competition.

How do I make sure I don't miss any prizes?

The best thing to do is to check the New Competitions pages every day. Some people prefer to use the Closing Soon section instead, but this means that you will miss competitions that have closed early or ones that we find and publish at the last minute. If you have time, don't forget to check the daily, weekly and monthly pages on a regular basis.

Can I enter competitions more than once?

Unless it states in the competition rules that multiple entries are acceptable, we would advise against entering more than once as your entries may be disqualified.

What if I accidentally entered a competition more than once?

Some competitions organisers delete multiple entries so that only one of your entries will go into the draw. However, some are more strict and will disqualify all of your entries if they find that you have entered on more than one occasion. If you think you may have entered more than once and are worried about disqualification, email the website running the competition.

I live outside the UK. Can I still enter?

ThePrizeFinder.com has a heavy UK bias but some competitions we list are open worldwide. Check the restrictions in the competition listings.

When I click on the competition link, I get a "page cannot be found" error.

When I click on the competition link, I get a server error.

The website is probably down for a short time. Try again later.

When I visit a competition page, it is showing a competition which has already finished.

Your browser is probably showing a cached version of the page. To force the browser to load the current page, click Refresh or Reload a couple of times, or press CTRL-R or CTRL-F5 to force a hard refresh. If the competition has finished early, please notify webmaster@theprizefinder.com.

Some of the competition links are missing in the listings.

Security or anti-virus software (eg Norton) running on your PC can block links from our advertisers. If you are running security or anti-virus software, please check the settings in your software, or turn it off temporarily so that the links are not blocked.

Why can I not change the number of competitions per page?

When you click on the 'competitions per page' drop down menu or other customization drop down menus at the bottom of the page, the site uses cookies to store your preferences. Your browser needs to be set to accept cookies in order for this to work. To check this in Internet Explorer, click on Tools/Internet Options, then click on the Privacy tab. Move the slider down to the bottom to accept all cookies.

How do I know if I have won?

In most cases, the website running the competition will contact you, or you may just receive a prize out of the blue! Some websites require you to visit their winners list page and 'claim' your prize, but this is very rare. If you need to claim a prize, we will mention this in the Prizefinder competitions listing.

I haven't won anything? Help!

To increase your chances of winning, concentrate on entering competitions which have multiple prizes or enter competitions with a skill based element (eg quizzes, games, tiebreakers).

I was informed that I have won a prize but several weeks later I still haven't received it? What should I do?

Send a polite email to the website involved saying that you have not yet received the prize and are wondering when you will receive it. If there is no response, try to find another contact email address on the website and contact them. Some websites are slow to send prizes, especially if the prizes have been provided by another company.

Competition tracking system

How do I know which competitions I've entered

ThePrizeFinder has a built-in competition tracking system. If you have registered on the site and are logged in, ThePrizeFinder will remember which competitions you have clicked on. Whenever you see these competitions listed again, the 'Last visited' line in the listing will tell you when you last clicked on that competition. In addition to this, the background colour of the prize listing will change colour if you have visited that competition before.

Why aren't the competitions that I've entered shown in pink or grey?

You need to be logged in for the competitions tracking system to work. If you are not logged in, your competition visits will not be recorded and there will be no information shown about the competitions you have already entered. Look at the top-right of the website for the 'Hello' caption to confirm you are logged in.
