  • Tea Time!

    Saturday, March 31, 2012

I started entering competitions because my hours had been cut in work and I was really bored at home. I never thought I'd win anything. I entered the clean campaign daily and after winning 4 prizes I got a little excited. I then thought I'd have a go at winning a year's supply of yorkshire tea, and to my surprise I WON!!! I couldnt believe it! I really have now caught the comp bug. The thrill is amazing, even if you dont win!

  • Check out the supercar!

    Friday, March 30, 2012

Back in January I was entering loads of comps to win a driving experience for my OH's birthday and I entered the What Would You Do competition run by the National Lottery on Facebook. I entered so many and such a time passed that I thought I had not won. Towards the end of February, I had a call from a lovely lady who started asking me really odd questions... Can you confirm you are not taller than 6'2" and you are a resident of the UK and you do not live on the Isle of Wight or Jersey or Gurnsey. Yes, I said and can you tell me why you're asking? I was puzzled, I'd never had a call like this before! She laughed and said she forgot to tell me I had won the competition to win a Ferrari f430 Spider supercar for a week with £500 fuel allowance and all insurance paid for. (Worth almost £4,500) I laughed, asked if she was serious and then laughed again, did a little bit of a scream and danced about the room. The car was delivered a week ago to our house on my OH's birthday and he was overjoyed with his pressie and I am living on best GF ever status. We had an amazing week of travelling in complete style, taking the kids to school one at a time, going to the drive thru and taking some amazing pictures and videos that we can keep forever! It was truely a once in a lifetime opportunity and now the car is gone, my OH says it is better to have Ferrari and lost, than never to have Ferrari'd at all! And it's all thanks to Superlucky Di sharing the comp on her facebook page!

  • Time for Tea and more Tea and more Tea!

    Friday, March 30, 2012

My husband and I both entered the Yorkshire Tea draw to win a new kettle and a year's supply of tea! We had to submit photographs of ourselves holding our old kettle. I got my son to hold his toy kettle in our photograph as well. They say it was drawn at random, but I like to think they couldn't resist his cute face!

I had forgotten all about the prize, so it was a lovely surprise! We opened the box to find a really great new kettle but also 30 boxes of tea (80 bags per box) so that's 2400 tea bags! I'm the only one in our house that drinks it! Even giving a few boxes away to family, we won't be needing to buy tea for a good long while!

  • Netbook Win

    Friday, March 30, 2012

I only enter competitions occasionally when I have a bit of time in the evenings. I usually go for the creative comps as I feel there is a better chance of winning those. I entered the viking doodle contest in Facebook three weeks running, and was lucky enough to win a Samsung netbook for my doodle of Chris Evans (the voice of the Viking Direct adverts).

I gave the netbook to my two year old son, to give to my wife for mothers day, as her laptop was second hand and literally falling to pieces. Just before Christmas I came second in a flash game on Top Fruit (sadly no prize for second place! I missed out on an iPad by a few points!) but I can't really complain as I won £250 as runner up in their slogan competition last year!

Also this month I won a £50 voucher but then found out I had to go and collect it in person (80 miles away) so I had to decline! I'll read the small print next time!

  • All Inclusive to Egypt

    Friday, March 30, 2012

I have been comping now for about 2 years. I didn't really win too much in the early days but I have been increasing the amount that I enter and yes... I have been winning. Some big prizes, some little ones (but they are the ones that spur you on and keep your going). Recently I won a week's all inclusive holiday to Egypt for 2 people with Hotels4U.com through Theprizefinder.com - after a lot of organising to sort childcare my husband and I went last week .... and it was amazing! Only problem was I had a week of not entering comps whilst I was away and I did miss it :O

  • It's a great feeling when you win!

I started comping about a year ago but didn't win anything so stopped for a few months. I started again around 6 months ago and have won various small prizes including cook books, a crate of cider, lunchboxes, and DVDs.

My biggest win has been a laptop with a value of around £1000!

Other wins include a years supply of Geobars, won by naming the 'Berry Buddies' as the characters for their new flavour of bar, tickets to The X Factor Final and Digital Music Awards, and my kid's favourite - £200 of Disney Toys!

Most of these have been comps I've seen on the Prizefinder, so thank you very much!

  • Foodie Wins

I have had some very nice food related prizes recently, from different types of competitions. The creative ones were a photo of me and my kettle for Yorkshire Tea and a video of my daughter hula hooping for 34 minutes for the Total Greek Yoghurt. For the Dorset Cereals, I won a case of cereals on Twitter a couple of years ago and recently won a comp to be a product taster. The Clipper Tea and Mug and Cadbury hamper came from Facebook competitions and the chocolate pizza and yarg of cheese (which was 2.8kg) were online comps that I found through The Prizefinder. Many of these were products I had previously never tried (or even heard of). Comping has allowed me to try some gorgeous foods that otherwise would have been weel out of my budget.

  • Mother's Day Patchwork

    Saturday, March 24, 2012

I won a £100 gift voucher from Crabtree & Evelyn patchwork competition. Everybody needed to send in a patchwork square to them and they join all the patchwork together and display it in all their shops throughout the country. My patchwork is the second row from the bottom and the secnod from the left. It looks rather nice on the display. This picture was taken in the Crabtree & Evelyn shop in Wimbledon. With my £100 voucher I bought some lovely lotions and cream for my mum on mother's day

  • My Wins This Month!

I've had a great month! First off, I won a camera and a book from Random House, and to make matters better, I won it with a treasured photo I took of my husband and my son! Next up - A personalised mat from Make an Entrance.... I agonised long and hard over the personalised message - but here it is! It's one which makes sense to us as a family, and makes us giggle everytime we cross the door! Next up - and I haven't collected yet, but I won a Mother's Day Prize; Bed and Breakfast at Malmaison in Edinburgh, Cut and Colour at Hair Salon, in Ocean Terminal, £50 Ortak Voucher, Bear from Build a Bear, Meal for Four at the Hand Made Burger Company, and a £30 Greggs voucher! My friend says that she can buy 47 Apple Danish for that! She's claimed it already. Brilliant Month! Thank you Prize Finder!

  • Comping Can Lead to So Much More Than Just Winning!!

I've been comping since November - in my first month I won a sofa from SCS!!! How's that for a start? Most of the bits and pieces I've won since have mainly been skill and tiebreaker competitions.

I've won some bubbles n truffles for Valentines day on Twitter for telling my worst date story, £200 in a Pinterest design competition, £60 for giving my opinion about internet dating for Take a Break Magazine.

I was also one of the finalists to win a £15000 wedding in Rhodes. I had to write about how I met my fiance and they loved my story so much they told me I had a very good chance of winning it. I hadn't, however, read the small print, which required the wedding to be filmed for Wedding TV. This wasn't really for me so I decided to bow out. Alas it wasn't mean't to be.

I love comping and enjoy the various challenges some competitions throw at you. It has also given me the confidence to realise that I could possibly use my writing skills to actually make a living.

Recently a woman's on-line Magazine called Bright Shiny News held a competition on Twitter & through them I found out they were looking for contributers. I have now had my first piece of writing published on-line and it's one of my proudest moments. Even though the work is unpaid - I can now build up a portfolio of work and hopefully get paid work in the future, which would be an absolute dream come true.

So not only have I found a fun new hobby but through it I've found a possible new career too and cheesey as it sounds I have The Prizefinder site to thank for that.
