Hello everyone! How was your weekend, any nice wins to report? A few nice bits and pieces here including a Playmobil set which I will squirrel away for my youngest at Christmas, a Dreamworks magazine from Sun Perks, a bottle of Headrin head lice treatment (not glamorous but practical all the same) and a cuddly owl toy from a Twitter comp! The Christmas cupboard has begun at least, and I am seeing lots of fab Christmas competitions already. Have you started comping for Christmas?
Autumn has certainly arrived here on the island and we have been enjoying some lovely weekend walks along the coastline, on the cliffs and through the woods. One thing we are never short of here on the Isle of Wight is beautiful scenery and wildlife! In particular as a family we are huge fans of squirrels, and red ones especially. In point of fact there are no grey squirrels here on the Island and it is an offence to introduce greys to the Island – it is a conservation habitat for red squirrels. Red squirrels are much more timid and difficult to spot than greys we have found, and like to play hide and seek when you try and take their photo in the woods.
Did you know there is even a National Red Squirrel Week? Well there is and it is this week: 28th September – 4th October 2015. Across the country people are being asked to get involved with projects set up to help our furry, nut-loving friends. Head over to The Red Squirrel Week page at the Wildlife Trust website and find out how you can get involved locally in conservation projects and activities.
In celebration of this important week here at The PrizeFinder we are giving away a fabulous squirrel-themed bundle in our monthly competition, open exclusively to members. I will choose one winner at random after the closing date of Sunday 4th October 2015 at 23:59 who will receive a flip top heavy duty wooden squirrel feeder and 6kg of squirrel food from Ark Wildlife – perfect for helping your local squirrel friends through the cold months to come! The durable timber squirrel feeder features a platform for the squirrels to sit on, lifting the lid to retrieve the food. The specially formulated squirrel food includes sunflower seeds, peanuts, hazelnuts, pine nuts and no wheat fillers – certain to keep the squirrels coming back to your garden time after time and off the bird feeders too! To join in simply leave me a comment below and tell me what your favourite garden visitor is, be it a bird or an animal – obviously mine would be a red squirrel or maybe a hedgehog. You need to be registered with The PrizeFinder and logged into your account to enter; one entry per person and one winner will be chosen at random.
Happy comping and lots of Lucky Dust to you all!

Our favourites have to be the Goldfinches. Such pretty little birds
I have never ever seen a red squirrel but its on my list of things to do.
I love seeing the birds visit my garden, we dont have anything really special though. Love the hedgehogs too
I love to see the little Jenny Wren who pops along very occasionally -it is so tiny and sweet
I love watching the squirrels pinching the food off the bird feeders but they drive the dog mad! We get foxes at the end of the garden at dusk too.
I love to see the robin that sits on our fence in the mornings. My cousin in Scotland gets pine martens and red squirrels on a regular basis!
We have a fox that visits. He's a bit brazen and poses for photos. I also have a pair of magpies that vist my front garden, I like to leave a few shiny bits and some food for them.
I have flocks of starlings and sparrows, plus blackbirds, a robin, bluetits and great spotted woodpecker which love the fat balls, seeds and mealworms and oh rarely a sparrowhawk which feed on ...! which clears the garden of birds for a day or two.
We have a badgers coming to our garden in the summer in particular. They like eating sultanas that we leave for the birds!
We have so many its hard to choose, the barn owl is top of my list but i also love the deer and not long ago i saw a king fisher
I love to see and hear the robin. I feed him mealworm and each time he gets just that little bit closer.....maybe one day he will feed out my hand
We have a grey squirrel that visits our garden and sometimes sits on our windowsill and looks in at us.
I get a hedgehog visiting every night. He gets fed mealy worms and the dog's leftovers.
Squirrels would definitely be my favorite (as the user name might suggest!)
We have a robin who comes - whenever I see him I feel christmassy
I get a lot of robins I'm my garden that sing such beautiful songs :) in the evening I have a small toad visitor that sits on my doorstep too, they are both my favourites
We have frogs that come and visit us regularly, they are my favourite wildlife :)
We have a robin that pays us a daily visit - he's a handsome chap!
I love seeing the Great Spotted Woodpeckers on the peanuts.
My favourite visitor is the squirrel. We have one at the minute although unfortunately I haven't been lucky enough to see it. Our cat just can't believe his eyes!
We had a lovely visitor last summer ,our paddling pool was set up and we díscovered the most beautiful frog in it practising his swimming techniques . It was a marvellous sight to see him doing the best ever breaststroke legs !
We have a nice blackbird
A gorgeous hedgehog! Absolutely love it! It goes in the shed so I leave the door open. It let's me get so close to it xx
Sika deer are infrequent visitors to our garden so it's exciting when they do come. The Bulfinch are a favourite too, such beautiful colours & not a bird you normally see everyday!
I think my favourite is a Magpie - such a handsome bird and distinctive call.
Love them all really!
I really would love a squirrel feeder and food because I have a grey one which comes in my garden and pinches the birds' food....funny to see his antics...one day he took a flying leap to reach a bird feeder, missed, and fell on the ground. He even tries sliding down cords which I have tried to use as a deterent.
I have several hedgegogs who visit the garden regually. These are my favourite.
Nearby I spotted a Otter and I would be totally amazed if the otter managed to make it to my garden.
We are supposed to have Pine Martins and Red Squirrels here so I am very keen to encourage them to my garden.
I love magpies, I love to see their beautiful colours.
At the minute we have pheasants coming into the garden
We've put a lot of care into growing trees to encourage birds and wildlife into the garden. It's worked well and there are a pair of big woodpigeons in particular who are mated for life, and they pretty much live in our garden.
