Some Mothers Do Win 'Em!

This weekend is Mother's Day, and it's a prime example of competition overload - particularly on Facebook and Twitter!

The nice thing about most of the Mother's Day competitions is that they require you to spend a little time on your entry - so perhaps you'll be required to upload a photograph, write a poem or tell a funny or moving story about your Mum. It's a good idea to make a note of your entries too - you could always email them to yourself or store them in a 'competition entries' folder on your computer. You'll find that similar competitions will pop up next year too, so you can always use the same ideas or photos again.

By entering a skill-based competition you'll already have given yourself a much higher chance of winning than with most of the Mother's Day prize draws that are around - a lot of people will see immediately that a comp requires effort, and be put off! If it's a slogan, poem or tiebreaker comp have a read through your entry before you share it on Facebook or email it to the promoter. Make sure there are no spelling mistakes and that it's within any specified word limit.

Here are some of my favourite Mother's Day competitions this year:

• If you have kids, ask them to draw 'a picture of mummy' and you could win one of 12 prizes from Small Steps - this closes at 8pm on Sunday - find out more here.

• On Twitter, Avon are giving away ten Mother & Daughter gift sets - to enter you need to finish the tweet #ilovemum because… - read more here and enter before midnight on Sunday.

• Asda are giving away 5 prizes of a family weekend in London, plus 50 runners up prizes of a family day out to the UK's top attractions. It's a tiebreaker competition, you need to say why your Mum is a Golden Mum! Enter here before 11th April.

• Win £100 to spend on shoes and £100 of Nourish skincare goodies - to enter, describe your Mum in a sentence over at the Daniel Footwear Facebook page before 25th March. Read more here.

You'll find lots more in our listings and on Facebook too - have a lovely weekend!

Well chuffed...was inspired by yur "effort comps" so got my daughter to draw a pic of "mummy"...scanned it and emailed ...Got an email today to say we have won a goody bag worth £50..:) so am going to start more on the effort comps....photo ones too:)

That's great news Debbie - I think PrizeFinder members have got some very talented kids by the sounds of it. Unfortunately my 2 year old has yet to master drawing comps, although he drew very artistically with a biro all over our bed sheet last week!!
